Jeffrey Bradley
Michigan DEN

8th grade Science Teacher Jeffrey Bradley was an early adopter to the Discovery Educator Network. Often Jeffrey will jump right in and take initiative to begin a new program or create a new class project. In 2002 his class successfully campaigned to make the mastodon Michigan’s official state fossil. The state legislature passed the bill and the Governor signed the legislation.
Jeffrey looks for ways to make science interesting and meaningful to his students at Slauson Middle School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ann Arbor Public Schools has subscribed to unitedstreaming through their regional educational media center, REMC 16, since 2002. Jeffrey uses hands-on inquiry based activities and technology to motivate his students. He believes that the one doing the work is the one doing the learning. He uses blogging, podcasting, and unitedstreaming digital media to engage students as well as help them express themselves.
Jeffrey has been recognized throughout his teaching career for his commitment, creativity, and sense of community, he won the 2004 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics and he was one of the five state finalists for the 2005-2006 Michigan Teacher of the Year Award.
Besides helping students learn, as a Discovery Educator, Jeffrey takes a leadership role in helping his colleagues learn more about unitedstreaming as well as about blogging and podcasting. At the 2006 Michigan Science Teachers Association Conference, Jeffrey presented, “Podcasting and Blogging in Science”. Check out his 8th Grade Introduction to Physical Science Blog to learn more about how blogging, podcasting, and unitedstreaming can make Science meaningful.
